AC Copper Pipes and Fittings in Goa: Sizes, Insulation and Installation

Every split AC needs two copper refrigerant lines connecting the indoor and outdoor units. The quality, size and installation of this piping directly affects cooling performance, electricity use and the risk of leaks. This page explains what to know when buying AC copper pipes in Goa for installation, relocation or repair.

ACR Copper Tubing

Air-conditioning and refrigeration work uses ACR copper tubing, which is cleaned and sealed after manufacture to keep moisture and dirt out of the refrigerant system. Soft annealed coils are commonly used for split AC lines because they can be bent by hand or with a bender, reducing the number of joints.

Liquid Line and Suction Line

The smaller pipe is the liquid line and the larger one is the suction (gas) line. Sizes are given by outside diameter in inches, such as 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″ and 5/8″. The correct sizes depend on the AC’s capacity and are listed in the installation manual or on the outdoor unit’s service valves. Using the wrong size can reduce cooling and strain the compressor.

Wall Thickness Matters

Modern refrigerants such as R32 and R410A run at higher pressures than the older R22, so pipe wall thickness and fitting quality matter more than before. Always use tubing rated for the refrigerant in your AC.

Insulation and Fittings

Both lines should be insulated to prevent condensation and heat gain, especially in Goa’s humid climate where sweating pipes can drip inside walls. Common fittings include flare nuts, unions, reducers and bends. Flare joints must be made with proper tools and tightened to the right torque to avoid slow leaks.

Good Installation Practice

  • Keep pipe runs as short and straight as practical
  • Seal pipe ends during installation to keep out dust and moisture
  • Pressure-test joints and vacuum the system before releasing refrigerant
  • Support and protect outdoor runs from sun and physical damage
