AC Thermostats and Sensors in Goa: Small Parts That Control Cooling
Temperature sensors tell your air conditioner when to cool and when to stop. Most modern ACs use thermistors, small resistors whose resistance changes with temperature. If a sensor drifts or fails, the AC may stop cooling early, run continuously, freeze the indoor coil or show an error code. This page covers replacement AC sensors and thermostats in Goa.
Common Sensor Types in a Split AC
- Room temperature sensor: in the indoor unit airflow, reads the room temperature
- Indoor coil (pipe) sensor: clipped to the evaporator coil, protects against freezing
- Outdoor coil, ambient and discharge sensors: found in many inverter ACs to protect the compressor
Resistance Values Matter
Sensors are rated by their resistance at a reference temperature, commonly 25°C, with values such as 5 kΩ, 10 kΩ or 15 kΩ depending on the manufacturer. Fitting a sensor with the wrong value makes the control board read the wrong temperature. The connector type and wire length must also match.
Mechanical Thermostats
Older window ACs, refrigerators and commercial units often use mechanical thermostats with a capillary bulb. These are matched by temperature range and switching type. For fridges and coolers, see refrigerator repair in Goa and commercial refrigeration in Goa.
Signs of a Faulty Sensor
- The AC stops cooling soon after starting, or never stops
- Ice forms on the indoor coil
- Sensor-related error codes on the display
- Display temperature that does not match the room
Technicians can measure sensor resistance with a multimeter and compare it with the manufacturer’s chart before replacing.
